Barry Gumerove
Tax Partner
Barry Gumerove, Co-Founder of GCP Advisory LLP, is a partner of the firm and has been advising clients regarding tax matters for over 45 years. A substantial portion of Barry's practice focuses on various types of real estate transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, and entity formation which requires his experience to minimize the income tax, estate tax and real estate tax consequences of such matters. He is frequently consulted for his advice regarding cost segregations, tax-free exchanges, involuntary conversions and various transactions affecting entity and equity-owner tax basis.
Barry is a talented advisor who is an adept and creative problem solver capable of bringing a unique perspective to matters presented to him, often adding, or eliminating, elements from initial scenarios to obtain desired outcomes. “I often encourage colleagues, clients and advisors to not limit their planning based on the client’s narrative. I’ve found that a broader, experienced perspective provides solutions not originally contemplated.”
Though Barry received his undergraduate degree in journalism prior to obtaining his Master’s Degree in Business Taxation, he will tell you without hesitation that skilled writing has served him well throughout his professional career as a CPA. “I have many war stories regarding matters under examination where I’ve obtained results colleagues thought improbable. Now I end up reviewing their correspondence.”
Barry looks forward to ski trips, which he’ll readily tell you are too infrequent, and is a dog show enthusiast (probably from his veterinary studies prior to obtaining his journalism degree – but that’s a story for another time).
